Some things to know
GETTING STARTED
At The First Dance, we try to keep our process as simple as possible. Avoiding confusion and knowing the details are essential to having an enjoyable learning experience with us, all the while achieving the goals you’ve set out for yourself. So here’s how our classes work, and what you need to know to get started:
Step 1
Know the details
Figure out some details that we need to get started. There’s a few questions you should try to figure out the answer to, this will help us tailor your lessons to you. For example:
-What’s your special song? Do you like the tempo/feel? (Pick a song you relate to, if you are caught between songs, we are more than happy to help you choose during our free consultation.)
-What “look”, style, or image are you going for? (Sentimental and slow? Energetic and Fast? Is this a couples dance or a group dance? Think of the goal you have for this dance)
-What is your time frame? (We suggest leaving yourselves a 3-6 month window before your wedding to get familiar with the dance at a comfortable pace)
-In person or online? ( Decide if you’d prefer your private lessons at our in person locations or through an online platform like zoom)
-What will be the dance floor size? Any obstacles?(tables, podiums etc). (This one is important so that we can mimic the floor size in our lessons, so there’s no worry of anything getting in your way.)
-Unsure? Not to worry. We are here to help, all of this can be addressed during your free consultation.
Step 2
Book Your Consultation
Book your free consultation with us. This 20 minute consultation gives us a chance get to know each-other a little bit. We can go over details and set up a goal for your lessons. Your instructor will also evaluate your current abilities to help plan out a timeline for your lessons. We may even practice a few steps.
Once we complete the consultation, should you decide to continue your lessons, you can then choose which lesson package you would like to go with, more info on this can be found on our individual lesson pages:
• Parents
From there, we find a good lesson schedule for you. We work at your pace, and we do not want to overwhelm you, dancing should (above all) be fun.
We advise our clients to book your consultation well in advance of your wedding, so that we can accommodate your learning style and schedule.
Step 3
Begin Your Lessons
Finally, we know the details, we know your goals, and you’ve chosen your lesson package. We can now begin our lesson plan. Together, we can make your special dance as simple or as elaborate as you like.
Our instructors are very experienced, but pride themselves on embracing a laid back, enjoyable learning style. We craft a unique experience for every client we teach. Not only will you feel yourself becoming more confident in your dancing, you will absolutely enjoy yourself.
